I lied
Since I had the size 8s, and what looked like enough yarn ...
Can you guess which hat is new? (Hint: I've not blocked it yet)

One tomato, two tomato
I'm not all that familiar with babies' heads, but I had a feeling the first hat I made would be too small for a 6-month-old. So I googled around and found a CDC chart on infants' head size and percentiles. Sure enough, even a puny baby would've outgrown it already. So back to the needles I went, this time size 9 instead of 7. Now it may be too large! (That's an adult hat for a small head -- mine -- in the background.) I suspect one made on size 8s would be juuuust right, but I don't see myself making yet another hat. This week, anyway.

I say tomato, baby
A wee detour from socks (why do they take so darn long?). I'll be seeing my cousin, his wife and their new-ish baby, Claire (I love that name), next weekend. I am Very Bad about acknowledging Life Events, so Claire hasn't heard from me yet. I'm hoping she'll forgive me when she sees her tomato hat.
The pattern is from Knit Chicks, here. It's 30 rounds of 72 stitches, then another 14 of steady decreases. I did about 10 rows in an hour last night, so I should be able to finish it today. I'm using Phildar Pegase+ (70% acrylic, 30% wool) in Rouge and Olive on No. 7 (4.5mm) dpns.
I tried to make a hat once before, with Magic Loop, only to confirm I am 100% Muggle. But it occurred to me: What is a hat but a fat sock without the bendy bit in the middle? Of course I can knit a hat!
