I feel inspired now, though! And I like my baked pasta really "baked" too :)sooplinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16148167409786216682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-49615403604249625672009-03-24T00:39:00.000-06:002009-03-24T00:39:00.000-06:00what a wonderful post-- farm animals and the resul...what a wonderful post-- farm animals and the resultant products from them! those eggs look Amazing!!
and i'm going to have to try making my own tomato sauce now-- that recipe you gave sounds really simple and yummy! thanks!kimchihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04520269126259045342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-12816733970106860062009-03-23T19:05:00.000-06:002009-03-23T19:05:00.000-06:00Natashya, check around; that farm animal may be cl...Natashya, check around; that farm animal may be closer than you think! A lot of cities have dairy co-ops or dairy-shares operations that will deliver to a central location.

Pam, I use jarred sauce in lasagna all the time. There are lots of good ones out there and there's no shame in using them, especially when you're pressed for time. If you do have time, it's quite easy to make your own, though. The easiest is to throw onion, garlic, a couple carrots and celery stalks in the food processor, then sautee the resulting puree in olive oil, then add tomatoes. You can use canned tomatoes or fresh, and either puree them, too, or crush them with your hands as you put them in the pot. Add fresh or dried basil and oregano, salt and pepper, simmer for a bit and voilà!

If you want to add meat, I recommend a mix of ground veal or beef and ground pork. And a little pancetta is nice, too. Brown the meat, set aside, then add with the tomatoes.

Betts, I think the homemade stuff is much richer-tasting and creamier. I don't object to the store-bought stuff, but this milk needed to be used up right away, so.Kitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16673726727402668186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-28252677063753337652009-03-23T18:31:00.000-06:002009-03-23T18:31:00.000-06:00Is homemade ricotta really better tasting than the...Is homemade ricotta really better tasting than the stuff you can buy in the store?Bettshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02266517579549649484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-79562334098850462162009-03-23T09:27:00.000-06:002009-03-23T09:27:00.000-06:00Is this your standard recipe for tomato sauce? A week or so ago I was reading a blog (unnamed, not yours) and got all bent outta shape b/c someone made a disparaging remark about cooks who use (shudder) any bottled tomato sauce, like Ragu. I began to question my worth as a mother, cook, and human being. For years I've made my spaghetti sauce or lasagna sauce or whatever with jars of the stuff. But now I'm ready to make it from scratch. So I'm looking for good, easy recipes. Your advice would be welcome.Pam J.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03397439327477925210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-15908887509982677612009-03-23T06:29:00.000-06:002009-03-23T06:29:00.000-06:00You are so cool!
