Happy ending

It occurred to me tonight to look on craigslist to see if anyone had posted about a lost Pom, and to put up a found ad myself.
Well, lookie here! Dog lost last night, six blocks away. Small, friendly purebred Pom.

I called, and they were ecstatic. Charlie belongs to a woman who just had heart surgery and daughter is there taking care of her, but the daughter's not used to little dogs, and Charlie got out without her noticing. (Considering how he has tried to sneak past me every time I have opened the door, I can see how this happened.)

Charlie is not debarked, but only barks when someone comes to the door.

Son-in-law picked him up just now, and Charlie was very excited to see him.

"Do me a favor," I told him. "Get a microchip."

  1. Yay, I'm glad you found his owners. And I'm glad he's not really de-barked -- that was a bit disturbing.

Maybe there needs to be some kind of feature article in the Saturday paper about how bad the shelters at coordinating information. Pull a reporter off the CIA beat to write it.

  2. Wow. I'm so glad he wasn't dumped! I know this is probably a silly question, but isn't dog registration required? That would provide a tag with a number that linked back to the owner. That's the only way we ever got Homer out of doggie jail every time he escaped (which was frequent when we lived in the city).

  4. Yay for Charlie! But even more kudos to you for looking on Craiglist! You deserve an award for all of this! And one for Sophie for being such a good girl and letting Charlie romp all over her domain!

So glad he is not de-barked, too!

Oh some more yays: yay! yay! yay!

  5. Yay! indeed.

I investigated a little more and found that the Dumb Friends League had no "lost" report for him, though the family told me they had gone to the shelter looking for him. And when I called the city back, I was told, "We don't take 'found dog' reports. The woman you talked to yesterday must have been new." Oy.

Alecto, yes, pets are supposed to be registered, but few people do. And the dog had no collar on, so. Best thing is a microchip.

Sophie is very glad to have the house (and me) to herself again.
