But I see that you can still buy these vintages, so I'm hoping mine are still good.Kitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16673726727402668186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-36745386782160162502008-09-04T14:33:00.000-06:002008-09-04T14:33:00.000-06:00Friends of ours had the wisdom to build a house at...Friends of ours had the wisdom to build a house at Snowmass 30-odd years ago. When we went there a couple of years back, they suggested we open some of the wines that were almost as old as the house. It was heartbreaking to throw out corked bottles of really exquisite wines that would have ANY occasion special if they hadn't been kept that long. I couldn't watch the vintage Chateau Margaux and similar being poured down the drain. So I saw, recruit wine-loving friends and drink 'em while they're still drinkable.

Claire @ http://culinary-colorado.blogspot.comClaireWalterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09795226291784652838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-61165343254261964092008-09-04T11:18:00.000-06:002008-09-04T11:18:00.000-06:00I know like nothing about wine, but it sure looks ...I know like nothing about wine, but it sure looks like an impressive stash!Jessy and her dog Winniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02213517154448328626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-35015471455555080362008-09-04T10:33:00.000-06:002008-09-04T10:33:00.000-06:00Thanks, all! (And sells for about $500 a bottle now!)

Betts, never fear, those special days appear here and there. Of the two bottles I opened, one was at a New Year's Eve dinner party and one when friends came to visit who really know wine. Both times the response was, "Oh, we shouldn't open this!" But of course we did, and were pleased with the results.

I won't be like those little old ladies who die leaving a closet full of things being saved for special occasions that were never quite special enough.Kitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16673726727402668186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-38538596150818493632008-09-04T10:21:00.000-06:002008-09-04T10:21:00.000-06:00I don't know too much about wines, except that I l...I don't know too much about wines, except that I like drinking them. I think wines are like fine linens and good china... get them out and enjoy them. Don't save them for special occasions. Every day can feel special when you use special things. My mom always saved stuff for special times, but too much stuff never got used. I've had one bottle from a the same case go 'off' and all the rest cellar beautifully for much longer. Trouble is there are a lot of changes besides wine/vinegar and the ones you have there are probably past their prime. I'd say make the opening of the wines a special occasion and see what you've got.Marcyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00649868333694186096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-90916885120974842422008-09-04T06:23:00.000-06:002008-09-04T06:23:00.000-06:00I agree with vicki. It needs air to do that.Marimoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01620548493781840068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30450596.post-71228377568179307212008-09-04T00:18:00.000-06:002008-09-04T00:18:00.000-06:00Lucky girl.
