I lied

Since I had the size 8s, and what looked like enough yarn ...

Can you guess which hat is new? (Hint: I've not blocked it yet)

  1. Hi,
I wanted to make this hat for a couple of babies being born at the end of May. I made a similar hat to this, with a roll brim, and it didn't cover the baby's ears. I know that's how a beanie is supposed to work, but I'd rather it cover the ears, as our winters are VERY cold. These babies will be around six months in the winter, but I thought I'd make it nine months' size. Could you let me know if your hat fit the baby how I'm hoping, or if I need to add a few rows to the bottom? Thanks so much for your time!

  2. Hi Alexandrea. I would make the hat a little longer if you wanted full ear coverage. Better yet, I would probably use a pattern with earflaps. Here's one. What makes my hats tomato-y is all in the shape and color of the decreases to form the stem, so you could probably combine the patterns for a tomato hat with flaps. Good luck!

  3. Perfect! Thanks! I figured if I started this winter, they might be done next winter. It's normal to have fifteen different projects at once, right? :)

  4. Completely normal. You need different projects for different moods and knitting conditions! Good luck!

  5. Okay, another question. I've just knit the ear flaps and have knit the first round-looking great so far! I had to make a few small adjustments, but no big deal. When I get to the leaves, do the instructions mean K1 in the green, K9 in the red, etc? I'm also learning how to read a pattern on this project.

  6. Good for you on adapting! Yes, The first K1 is the very tip of the green leaf. You'll keep adding more green stitches as you move upward.
