I see a bunch of these nests out at Chatfield State Park. They're very cleverly made baskets, dangling from the ends of branches. They're about the size of a baseball. Does anyone know what bird makes them? You can click the photo to see it larger.
Hey, I found your blog through a Chowhound query for cheesemaking supplies near Denver. Did you have any luck finding them? I would rather go pick up some rennet and cultures rather than buying online. Just thought I would see if you had had any luck =)
Now I've got something else to occupy me on this snow day... looking through your blog!
Looks like an Oriole nest to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I googled around and found this post that confirms it is a Bullock's Oriole. Neat!
ReplyDeletethat is really pretty! Well done!
ReplyDeleteLooks so cozy and warm, makes me want to live there! Lovely shot.
ReplyDeleteNice pad. Very resourceful of them.
ReplyDeletewouldn't you just love to have a stop-action camera to see how they do it?
ReplyDeleteWe have Baltimore Orioles here. There is a nest in the neighbor's tree but it is very high up in the tree. How high was this one?
ReplyDeleteNice and warm home!
