Just as I suspected

The saga of the "mansion home" continues. The foreclosure sign just went up, and I checked the price online: $703K. Quite a come-down from the $1.15 million they were asking three years ago, when it was built. It's been empty all this time. (You can click the "mansion" tag below to see previous posts about this house.) I'll bet the neighbors will be happy to see someone living there.

Casualty of greed

When I last reported on the "mansion home" for sale In April 2008 (!) after first noting it in August 2007, the price had been dropped from $1.15 million to $999,800.

Later I saw they'd dropped it to the high $800s (failed to take a pic, though).

I took the picture above with my cellphone on Aug. 1 of the door plastered with warning noticed from the city to clean up the weeds and trash in the yard or face a $200 fine. There was also a note from an enterprising soul offering to do it for $20. Which I'm guessing didn't happen, since a city crew showed up the next day.

The For Sale sign is long gone, so I'm guessing the place is mired in foreclosure now.

I would feel more sorry for the builders, who I think did a nice job with the design, if they hadn't been asking such a ludicrous price to begin with. Being way overpriced even before the market imploded means someone will now get it for a song, most likely, and all the subcontractors who worked on it will go begging.

925! Do I hear 925?

Well, the whole white balance option didn't work out. My camera won't let you do a super-long exposure and set the white balance. That's just something I'll have to make sure the next camera does when this one dies.

Meanwhile, I can do some color correction in iPhoto to cut the orange a little. Much like they've cut the price on that "mansion home."
I first noted it on Aug. 8 last year at $1.15 million.

On April 3 it was $999,800.

Now, only $925,000!

I'm guessing they got tired of printing up fancy brochures and having people take them just to see what the price is. "Oh hell, just drop the price and put it on the damn sign already."

"Mansion" no more

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may recall the brand-new "mansion home" for sale in my neighborhood last summer for $1.15 million.

Well, in my continuing search for that missing glove (I have to walk the dog anyway, so why not?), I passed the place again today and noticed that
1) It has a new realtor,
2) They're no longer calling it a "mansion home" and
3) They've dropped the price to $999,800.

Oh, that's much more reasonable, don't you think?

Morning stroll

Walking by this plant, I noticed the bees first, then realized it's the most ginormous dill plant I've ever seen. They don't call it dill weed for nothing!
Not just bees, but wasps and hornets were all going to town on it. It made me a little nervous to get really close because unlike bees, wasps and hornets can get really pissy about being disturbed. There were so many, I thought there might even be a nest in the ground right there, but no, it was just the lure of the dill.
Then I walked by a house that's been under construction for a long time, and is finally close to being finished. It's not hideous but wow, guess how much they want for it? $1.15 million! Holy shit.

There's a newer house like this around the corner from me that is also priced at over $1 million, and is quite spectacular inside (I saw it on the home tour), but it's been on the market for more than a year.
I also saw some creative repurposing of patio awning supports that would be a little less obvious if they took the top bits off. And then there's the creative repurposing of lawn as driveway. I'm sure the neighbors are appreciative.
