The Sergeant snapped this photo while I was at work the other day. "The bees are going crazy for this flower!" he told me.
It was just this one poppy bloom and just that day. He couldn't figure out what was different about it; there wasn't water collected in the petals or anything that made it look special, but there were dozens of bees trying to get to it.
Wow! Great pix, Sarge. In my ill-fated 13 months of beekeeping (sob -- I still miss my hive terribly) I read somewhere that on any given day the bees will be searching for one particular kind of nectar and only that kind. So, if that's true, maybe that day was Poppy Day in Denver and your lone poppy was especially desirable.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I showed my husband the Dalai Lama video you posted and all day I could hear him occasionally go to the computer, play the video, and laugh heartily. In fact, he laughed harder as the day went on. And now he tells friends about the video -- which takes longer than actually viewing the video.
Yeah, I have heard that, too. But it was still kind of weird to have just one flower being mobbed!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you don't have your bees, but I think you will again someday.
I'm glad your husband loves the video! It made me laugh and laugh.
