Silly kitchen gadget No. 1

In the comments of my Cooks are dumb post a couple of weeks ago, White on Rice Couple suggested I do a "silly gadgets" series, highlighting some of the goofy kitchen implements we've all run across. Herewith, my most recent find, at H-Mart on Saturday: IQ Chopsticks!

These silly things are designed for children (I hope) to learn how to hold and used chopsticks, despite the fact that millions and millions of Asian children somehow manage to do just fine without such training wheels. What really amuses me is that they also are good for "improving intelligence." It says so right on the package!

So if little Johnny or Susie isn't doing well in school, you know where to go!

(Click on the "silly gadgets" tag below to see other examples.)

  1. Good grief. Those things look more complicated than regular chopsticks.

  2. training wheel chopsticks!! that is hilarious. and looks way more complicated than necessary.

  3. I feel quite a bit more intelligent just from having seen the photo. So I guess they work.

  4. Hah! How funny and those are cute and you're right, most Asian children somehow learn naturally with the "adult" size ones. I know of a few "Westerners" who could really use a pair of those! Maybe there is a purpose to such silliness! ;)
So glad you are starting this series. This will be so much fun!

  5. Hey I might need those :O)

If you think about it we have some funny looking forks for little kids too.

  6. I can see having smaller ones for little hands, but really, all it takes is a little practice.

That said, I notice now when I eat with chopsticks that I've lost the muscles I'd built up when I used them every day. My hand gets tired after a while.
