Poodle in translation

Park!

PARK!

PARRRRK!

Take us to the park NOW!
Oy, all right, already!
How's the water, Leo?

The water's fine!

Sophie was perkier today. It helped that it was only about 60 degrees out, and we took a day off from walking yesterday.

Happy dog!

  1. Great Pics of your Poodles in the water. I have two Standards, a male apricot, Ed, who has just recently learned to love the water and 4 year old Meg, who is a red femald Standard. She will wade in to her stomach level but that is about it!

I have a website all about Standard Poodles. Check it out!

  2. Yes, I am awesome!

Hey Sandy, thanks for stopping by! I'll definitely check out your site.

Sophie didn't really swim until she was about 2 years old. I encouraged her to enjoy the water, but I never pushed her to swim until she was ready.

My other poodle, Doogie, learned to swim at 5, after I got him from rescue. He was damned if he was going to let other dogs get to toys that he couldn't, so after a few false starts, he waded in over his head, sank, then came up swimming.

  3. I'm so jealous of your doggie water park. I want to encourage Dorrie to swim, but haven't found the right place yet. Dog run friends told me about a place up about an hour from here, so I might take a trip before it gets too cold. But I wish we had a spot like yours!

  4. This place is half an hour away, if I want to park right next to the dog area, or 20 minutes if I don't mind walking a bit with a leashed critter. With extra dogs, I go the long route.

Come visit again, and bring Dorrie!

  5. Oh, I love Sophie being happy! Cute video. It looks like a great dog park - I can see that your three charges love it there.

To add to the poodle swimming comments: Tess was a natural - jumped right off the dock the first time she saw me in the water. Kobie likes to be in control - so when his feet leave the ground, he's not happy. Now Tess seems to think that if Kobie doesn't swim, she shouldn't either. (sigh) Oh well, just means more space for me!!

  6. Yeah, Sophie suspects treachery, so it took her a long time to decide that swimming wasn't going to kill her. I knew if I pushed her, she'd never do it, so I had to just let her figure it out on her own after a lot of wading.

I suppose if you live on a lake, it may be better to have dogs that aren't super-fond of swimming, so you're not dealing with wet dogs and muddy pawprints all the time.

  7. Wet dogs - muddy pawprints - jailbreaks - begging to go swimming - yeah, sometimes it's good they aren't fanatic about the water. But on super hot days, a good dunk in the lake beats A/C all to heck.
