Cop-out

Sometimes I just feel too tired, or too lazy, or, like today, just too under the weather to fix a proper meal for lunch. And I don't want to spend the money or effort to go out or order in.

I could resort to a bowl of cereal or oatmeal, but as it happened, I had something better in the fridge. A little cheese, a little salami, some crackers, and some sundried tomatoes. This made for a fine little lunch, and I didn't feel like a total culinary loser for eating cereal. (Lord knows I've done that often enough. I'll bet you have, too.)

The cheese is a little strange. It's hickory-smoked cheddar, but it has the consistency of Velveeta. Tastes OK, but I don't think I'll get it again.

This is kind of a cop-out post, too. I have no ideas for anything better right now.

  1. That sounds like a great lunch! My lunches are much more boring.

  3. It was not a bad lunch. But kind of a lame post.

Cereal's always a good fall-back, if you like cereal. I guess you don't, db?

  4. I hope you don't have that lousy hacing head cold I've had for eleven days now! Dreadful stuff. The lunch looks fine, except I like a handful of Greek olives alongside.

  5. An apple and some cheese comprise one of my favorite pick-up lunches. IMO, that "hickory-smoked cheddar" with the questionable taste and funny texture is often a gift-basket component or somthing for sale at a place like Stuckey's or the Cracker Barrel.

  6. Dani, I would've loved some olives with this, too, but I was all out.

Claire, yes, this is very much of the redneck fine cheese variety, if I can put it that way. It's really not ... bad, but the texture is just too velveeta-y for me.
