In some neighborhoods, the Fourth of July sounds like a war zone, with fireworks a-popping day and night the whole week. That doesn't seem to be a problem where I live; I've hardly heard any.

If only there were a way to to silence the more perennial noisemakers: the neighbors' screaming toddlers. Happy or sad, they have only one volume: PIERCING.
