What is it? No. 16

Here's one I know you won't guess without a hint, so I'll tell you that it's about the size of my fist, and I was holding it up with a wire landscaping stake.

Warning: Don't click the picture if you're squeamish. I thought it was really interesting, but I'm not easily squicked out. You can get a non-squeamish friend or co-worker to click on it for you and be the judge.

  1. Wow, that's really cool. But awww. I once found a little brown bat corpse on the busy, very urban street that intersects Broadway at my subway stop -- they're all over. I'm a big bat fan, myself.

  4. Poor little thing..bats are very underrated.. do you get microbats there? We sometimes find them sleeping in our wood pile..their little body is only 2" wide..so cute :)

  5. Sad little bat - I hope he went to Bat Heaven where there are lots of juicy bugs to eat.

  6. Well, Ok, y'all aren't as squeamish as I thought you'd be! It was a little creepy as a corpse. Live bats don't bother me at all. When I was a kid I wanted one for a pet after going to a bat lecture. The lecturer, Dr. Merlin Tuttle (you don't forget a name like that), kept his live bats in cotton-lined matchboxes in the fridge (or was it the freezer?). They would hibernate until he brought them out to show.

Gina, I don't think I've ever seen a microbat. They sound cute!
